Shop nowFew things make us sadder than watching our dog’s health deteriorate as they reach advanced age. Whether it’s because of a condition like arthritis or anything else, we want to do everything we can to make their life more comfortable. At Woof Passion, we have accessories for dogs with arthritis that are designed to make them more comfortable as they go about their day. Keep reading for a few suggestions of things that we’ve found to make life easier for senior dogs.
Oversized comfy bed
Sleeping on a hard floor can be uncomfortable for a dog with sore joints. Even a bed that’s lost much of its stuffing or worn thin can be equally as difficult to sleep on at night. Get an oversized bed that allows your dog to lie down entirely within the confines of the bed. This means buying a bed for a medium-sized dog if you have a small dog, a large bed for a medium-sized dog, and so forth. This makes for plenty of space for your dog to sleep in a comfortable place that allows their joints to rest.
Ramp or stairs to a bed or couch
Constantly hopping up and down off a couch or bed is not only difficult when your dog develops arthritis, but it can also be incredibly painful. If you’d like to continue to allow your dog to lounge on the couch or sleep in your bed with you, a ramp or small set of stairs are great ways to help. This way your dog can continue to sit with you where you want without the difficulty of hopping up and down.
Collapsible wagon or doggy stroller
Exercise is an essential part of keeping your dog healthy, even with arthritis. It’s important to continue to take your dog out for walks because it helps to keep their joints moving and provides exercise to keep their weight down. After all, a dog that gains weight will struggle even more with arthritis.
That being said, it’s likely that your dog will tire easily and not be able to take a long walk. A collapsible wagon or doggy stroller are great solutions to helping your dog push its ability to walk without having to carry them back when they’re tired out. You can allow your dog to walk for as long as they’re able then give them a ride home in a relaxing wagon or doggy stroller.
Raised food and water bowls
Hunching over and leaning down to eat food or drink water can be painful for an aging dog. Sometimes this action can be so painful for a dog that it won’t want to visit its food or water bowls at all. You can raise these and make them more accessible by putting the dishes in a setup that brings the food to them and doesn’t require them to lean down close to the ground. These are available in many sizes and can accommodate various sizes of dogs.
